Our History
Rosemary Rae, founder, Director of Glen Park Montessori Preschool, opened the school 22 years ago as a small school of 12 students. Since that time, the school has continued to thrive and grow into the 36-student, two-classroom school it is today.
In the year 2000, Glen Park Montessori Preschool moved to its current location on Chenery Street, in San Francisco, with easy access to BART, bus lines, Highways 280 and 101, and the surrounding Glen Park, Noe Valley, Bernal Heights, Mission, Miraloma, Sunnyside, and Diamond Heights neighborhoods.
The school’s new, two-story structure was built to specification as a daycare center, and as such, our classrooms conform to the latest requirements for structure and safety, and features wonderful amenities like kid-sized toilets and sinks.
Behind the school, our play yard includes a deck, a lovely garden, and the “ball yard” for gross motor activity (a.k.a. running, climbing, and playing), in the company of a hundred-year-old redwood tree. We are located two blocks from a city mini-park, “The Meadow,” and just six blocks from Glen Canyon Park, a restored natural habitat with abundant wildlife.
